PLACE IT San Francisco

The Brief

San Francisco designer and owner of PLACE IT, Gwen McClure, wanted to update her Wix website to make it easier for her potential clients to navigate and to fine-tune the cheerful design. The PLACE IT brand is happy, organized, and straightforward—so, after some discussion with Gwen, we moved forward with the idea of moving the Wix site to WordPress.

Our Approach

In an effort to stay consistent, we recommended that Gwen also switch from Go Daddy to WP Engine—as this made a lot of sense for a WordPress site. WP Engine is fast, reliable, and offers great support as their only focus is on WordPress websites. We worked alongside Gwen and Alison (a content guru Gwen had been working with) to come up with the best plan of action for the site’s content layout. On the new site, we refined the services, dug deeper into the process, added customer success stories, a tips section, a collection of her work and ideas, all while sharing Gwen’s story and love for her business. We transferred Gwen’s desired design elements from the previous site, however, added new design elements like fonts, additional photography, and an overall more organized presence. Some other technical upgrades were contact forms that integrated with MailChimp, speed optimizations, integration with social media, and some on-site SEO optimizations. Additionally, in an effort to stay consistent with branding, we helped Gwen design her new newsletter—transferring everything from Constant Contact to MailChimp.

The Result

Gwen was so excited about the result. We all had such a great time working together on this project, and are so happy to see the positive results even just days after launch. Gwen is now able to share the website with confidence to potential clients wanting to know more about the home organizing, interior design, and move management services that she offers. Potential clients are also able to view a more well-rounded story of the business, as well as stories about how the services worked for other happy clients. Gwen also offers tips and guides to liberating your home, decluttering your life, and simply loving your space. Finally, Gwen’s business is being monitored and upgraded every month with care by our WordPress support plans. We are delighted to work on more projects with PLACE IT in the future.

From the Client

I hired SmackHappy because of Nicole Hanusek’s expertise and calm & positive attitude. When I was introduced to her associate, Danielle Iera, I felt like I’d won the lottery. Danielle’s technical and creative abilities are outstanding. I was blown away by these two women! They’re professional, very patient, easy to work with, collaborative, creative, did I say patient? I especially liked how they educated me throughout the project. I could ask dumb questions without feeling dumb. Their suggestions enhanced my website from an esthetic and technical standpoint. What they produced outshined my previous website because it was clearly organized and beautiful to look at. I’m moving into my next chapter, as a business owner, with more confidence because of these two talented women.

Thanks to Danielle for the first time since opening my business I feel proud of my website. Yesterday I got a call from a potential client asking a lot of questions about my interior design services. I directed her to my website and walked through a number of sections with her. My website is so complete and fun to look at she was thrilled with the info. She especially liked being able to see all the process steps and the case studies. Danielle has also been managing my social media and newsletter distribution so I no longer have to stress over it. My name is out there consistently and professionally because of Danielle. Ohh.., did I mention she’s helped me design brochures? I don’t know what I do without her. I can now focus on what I love; interior design, organizing and move management.
