Stinson Beach County Water District

The Brief

Stinson Beach County Water District (SBCWD), a key public water/wastewater agency in Stinson Beach, CA, sought our expertise to revamp their existing website. Our project encompassed redesigning the site to enhance service delivery, improve user experience, and strengthen SBCWD’s professional image. This transformation aimed at making the website a comprehensive hub for client services, job recruitment, and fostering joint venture partnerships.

Our Approach

Understanding the Audience:

Recognizing the majority of Stinson Beach’s population comprises senior citizens, we prioritized ease of navigation and user-friendliness. Our design and development team, led by Anna and Corina, crafted wireframes with this demographic in mind.

Ensuring Accessibility and Compliance:

Compliance with ADA standards was non-negotiable. We collaborated with Scalesology to achieve WCAG 2.1 Level AAA compliance, creating flexible template layouts for diverse content types, including text, images, and interactive media.

Revitalizing Brand Identity:

One of our content experts, Dani, focused on conveying SBCWD’s professionalism and reliability. Alongside, we refreshed their logo for digital and print use and integrated a unique drone footage montage, credited to Colette Peri, to enhance visual appeal.

In the design process, a notable highlight was Anna’s role in reimagining SBCWD’s logo. This task was approached with a keen understanding of the district’s heritage and its vision for the future. Anna skillfully balanced modern design trends with the timeless essence of SBCWD, resulting in a logo that resonates both with the local community and the wider audience. This redesigned logo not only elevated the brand’s visual identity but also seamlessly integrated with the new website’s aesthetic, ensuring a cohesive and impactful online presence.

The Result

A Comprehensive Service Hub:

The revamped, ADA Compliant, website now seamlessly directs clients to essential services like online bill payment and public information access, including board meeting minutes, service alerts, and community resources.

Enhanced User Experience:

Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, especially regarding the website’s navigability and the intuitive content management system, which significantly cuts down administrative costs for SBCWD.

Kent Nelson, SBCWD’s General Manger and District Engineer said, “This effort has been transformative.”

Preparing for Future Enhancements:

Looking ahead, we’ve laid the groundwork for incorporating direct permit application and payment processes. Our continued involvement through a hosted care plan ensures the website remains secure, functional, and up-to-date.

This project not only revitalized SBCWD’s digital presence but also set a new standard for public utility websites in catering to community needs and regulatory requirements.

From the Client

Overall, I am very pleased with both the level of service provided by Smack Happy and the end product that is our new website. Smack Happy took the time to help us identify and design specifically what we wanted our new site to do, then created one that is now easy to navigate, visually pleasing and well-designed. The design team was professional and responsive from start to finish, and always ensured our needs and desires were fully addressed in a timely manner. I highly recommend our project and design team as well as Smack Happy overall!
