Gray-Bowen-Scott
The Brief
Gray-Bowen-Scott (GBS) is a niche small business that provides professional consulting services in the transportation sector. Their services range from Program-Project Management to Grants Administration, and lots of specialties in between. Their motivation and mission are to deliver projects that positively impact the communities we live in.
The team at GBS wanted to update their website to a modern look and feel but also to be modern in that it will work well on all devices and platforms. Most of all, they wanted a website that they would be proud of and also want to have fun while creating it.
Our Approach
Considering GBS’s measures of success being that of increased revenue, happy clients, as well as featuring finished projects and a happy team – we approached each step with this in mind. In addition to creating a website that would be easy to update and navigate for their team and their audience alike, we worked closely with the GBS team to capture every aspect.
- We worked closely with the client to:
- Convey a vibe that their employees LOVE what they do
- Show the importance of the company culture and history
- Transform the content to something more visually interesting
Elisa Cicinelli Photography created beautiful images for the website consisting of team headshots and candids to help follow the color scheme of the office, which they loved and resonated with all. In addition, we created a completely custom interactive map featuring the majority of their completed project locations, including roadway improvement projects.
Photography
Elisa worked with the team at GBS to capture captivating headshots and amazing candid’s of the whole office – all while having fun.
Iconography
At the project start, we discussed concepts of a custom infographic of some sort, however, we landed on another idea to create a customized mix of iconography for each service and feature on the website.
Logo Tweaks
Sometimes businesses don’t need a complete logo overhaul, but just a refresher of their current one. We spent some time working with GBS to update their logo to match the overall branding of the new website and the business overall. Specifically, we changed the colors of the GBS logo to match the color palette of the office décor.
Interactive Project Map
Our developer team used Mapbox to create a custom-designed map, featuring project pins and lines of roadway work completed by GBS. Mapbox is an open-source mapping platform used just for these purposes. Their APIs and SDKs are the building blocks to integrate location into any custom map web application.
The Result
Gray-Bowen-Scott clients and potential clients are now able to feel like they’ve come to the right place to have all their problems solved. They feel that they are in the hands of experienced professionals with extensive skills, experience, and industry relationships to help them deliver their projects. We were more than delighted to help uncover the amazing group of people that they are through each and every website detail.

From the Client
My firm hired Smack Happy to help us redesign and refresh our outdated website. Danielle Iera was our project manager and she held our hands throughout the process. Danielle and her team helped us develop special interactive pieces that are unique to our website, hired a wonderful photographer to update our staff portraits, and overall just kept us on track and budget. We’re thrilled with the results!
