Smack Happy Design Named to the Agency Workplaces Index

Our toughest critics just weighed in, and the reviews are good. Smack Happy Design has received the 2027 Agency Workplaces Award.

We spend most of our time cheering on our clients’ wins, so indulge us for a minute while we cheer one of our own. Smack Happy Design has received the 2027 Agency Workplaces Award and is now listed in the Agency Workplaces Index, a directory of agencies recognized for building exceptional places to work.

What makes this one meaningful to us is who did the grading. Agency Workplaces sends an anonymous survey straight to an agency’s team, and responses are only reported in aggregate, so nobody’s answers are tied back to them. Scores combine favorable responses with engagement, weighted by how many people participated. The survey was built specifically for agency life, where tight turnarounds and shifting client priorities are part of the job, and it looks at workload and burnout, pay and benefits, leadership transparency, and whether people feel like they belong. Agencies that don’t qualify aren’t published, so a spot on the Index means our own team vouched for the place.

As a women-led agency with women holding the majority of our leadership roles, we’ve always believed the way a team treats each other shows up in the work clients see. We’re fully remote, spread across the country, and we put real effort into keeping that feeling of a close-knit crew. We like to think we put the Happy in Smack Happy on purpose. Now there’s paperwork to back it up.

A big thank-you to our team for the honest feedback, and to our clients, who make the work worth showing up for. You can see our listing on the Agency Workplaces Index.

I started my digital life in 2007, writing and managing content for lifestyle publications covering motorcycles, golf, and winter sports. The team I worked alongside went on to become executive producers, podcasters, cinematographers, and senior designers. That environment taught me to move fast, stay curious, and figure things out as I go. It's where I discovered that digital publishing, marketing, and web design are all parts of the same puzzle, and I've been rearranging the pieces ever since.

For over fifteen years, I've worked as an extension of my clients' marketing teams across industries ranging from executive recruitment and telecom to healthcare, legal services, and nonprofits. The specific sector changes; the job doesn't. Say what you mean, make it easy to find, and build something that actually works for the people using it.

I'm a refined yinzer, a proud RMU alumna (Go Colonials), and my son's biggest fan. I think in systems, celebrate neurodivergent thinking, and practice festina lente, which is a fancy way of saying I believe in doing things right instead of doing them fast. I'm also the person most likely to disappear into a Sleep Token rabbit hole when I should be doing something else.

Everything I know about doing good work comes down to one Pittsburgh proverb: don't be a jagoff.
