You let us know what's going on. We start by understanding your situation.
Assess
We do a full assessment of your current site. We check for anything that needs cleanup before we migrate. A site with unclear security history gets the Deep Dive before migration so nothing compromised moves onto the new infrastructure.
Set Up
We migrate your site to Pressable, configure DNS (typically through Cloudflare), set up SSL, enable Site Protect, verify backups are running, and test everything before pointing your domain.
Maintain

Why Pressable?

Your hosting includes daily file system backups and hourly database backups, with all backups retained for 30 days.
On top of that, our WordPress support plans add a separate layer: daily cloud backups of your file system and database stored on a different server entirely.
If something goes wrong, we have multiple restore points across independent systems. We've never lost a client's site, and we intend to keep it that way.
Security: Built In, Not Applied with Duct Tape
Every hosted site includes Site Protect, powered by Patchstack. It's an all-in-one security hardening layer that blocks known vulnerabilities, hides sensitive site information, and shuts down common WordPress attack vectors without affecting performance.
SSL
SSL certificates powered by Let's Encrypt are included with every hosted site. Your visitors browse securely, and you get the SEO benefit that comes with it.
DNS
A lot of the downtime we've seen over the years comes from DNS hosted on a reseller or poorly managed server, or misconfigured by a third party. If we're granted user permissions to manage DNS, we can provide faster resolution when issues come up. In most cases, we set up DNS through Cloudflare for our clients regardless of where the domain is registered. It's more reliable, more secure, and gives us the control we need to keep things running.
FAQs
Should I update my own plugins?
If you’re on a care plan with us, leave the updates to us. We follow a specific process: (safe) backup the site, check it, run the updates, then check it again. Our software logs every plugin version change, so if something breaks we know exactly what caused it and can roll it back. When clients update plugins on their own, we lose that version history and the ability to pinpoint what changed. If something goes wrong, troubleshooting takes longer and costs more.
Can I add plugins or third-party scripts to my site on my own?
We’d prefer you check with us first. Not every plugin is built well, and some will conflict with your existing setup or introduce security vulnerabilities. The same goes for third-party scripts like tracking pixels, chat widgets, or embed codes. If something gets added and it breaks your site, and we don’t know about it, we’re starting the troubleshooting process blind. That takes longer to diagnose and fix, and the time is billable.
My website was not built by Smack Happy, can you still help me?
Yes, we are happy to inherit websites built by others, though we don’t accept everyone.
First we’ll want to do a website evaluation to get familiar with your website and how it was built so we can save it in a pinch. During the evaluation, we’ll run through our list and make suggestions for improvements before proceeding with a monthly plan. Oftentimes, very little changes need to be made.
